*Not everyone knows that the state of Nevada used to be primarily a mining state. Gold and silver mines were everywhere in the 1800s.
*Nelson and the mines are open 7 days a week, year-round. However, because this is in the heart of the desert I recommend keeping your trip short during the summer months or visit in the fall or winter for the most pleasant temperatures.
*Nelson requires that everyone check in at the store first before exploring around the space.
*Spend some time in the main gift shop building. The caretakers are real characters and have a lot of stories and information about the old town.
*It’s free to visit, but there are options for mine tours or even a ghost tour, oooh, spooky!
*The Techatticup Mine is one of the oldest and richest, not to mention one of the most famous gold mines in southern Nevada.
*There only remains a partial old west town at the base of the mine and some random items stored here. Think WWII-era planes and old cars! This makes for great photos!
Renting a car is recommended.
